Begin your day visiting Hanoi’s highlights with a visit to the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum and hear story about the man who led Vietnam to independence from French colonial rule. After dedication of his life to the liberation Vietnam from foreign country, Ho Chi Minh died in 1969 and his body was preserved for posterity of Vietnam! Then wander the botanic garden past the Presidential Palace to see Ho Chi Minh’s House on stilts then toward the One Pillar Pagoda. Next, continue to another 11th century relic the Temple of Literature to visit Vietnam’s first university.

During the afternoon, visit the Ethnology Museum (closed on Mondays), this fascinating place offers a glimpse of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic minorities. Alternatively, visit the Vietnam Women’s Museum to learn all about the important roles of Vietnamese women in history and society.

Next, you will visit the picturesque Ngoc Son temple hiding on a tiny green island of Hoan Kiem Lake. From your guide’s narration, find out why its name derived from a legend when the emperor of Vietnam returned a magic sword to a giant turtle! Enjoy a walking tour into some of the Old Quarter’s 36 streets, which named after the name of the products sold or made from that street. Today, a few streets still sell the product as its name. End you day with a delightful water puppet show, a traditional art that is still being performed today.
