Deep in the Mekong Delta

THROUGH DEEP IN THE MEKONG DELTA TOUR, YOU WILL DISCOVER

Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City – Cai Be (L)

Start your Deep in the Mekong Delta tour from Ho Chi Minh City with a transfer for two hours to the Delta. From Cai Lay, enjoy a boat cruise to the bicycle starting point and cycle along shady roads along canals and sleepy villages, stop to visit traditional workshops and see how locals produce turmeric spring roll rice paper. For those who are not keen on cycling adventure, hop on a “xeloi” a cart towed by a bicycle.

Arrive and visit a local family’s orchard, meet with the owner who was a war veteran to exchange stories about how his life has changed the last decades after the war. Then walk following the owner to visit different tropical fruit trees, enjoy some fresh fruits picked from the garden. Wave goodbye to the friendly host and take a relax cruise on a small sampan boat along the tropical canals.

Disembark the boat and continue to an old house of a architectural blend between traditional Vietnamese style and European touch. Enjoy a Mekong Delta lunch before continuing by road transfer to Cai Be for the night in the riverside resort.

Day 2: Cai Be – Chau Doc (B, L)

From Cai Be, drive deep into Mekong Delta to arrive in Sa Dec town, an authentic charming Mekong Delta town that the modernization wave has not reached. Visit Kien An Cung, a Buddhist Pagoda and have lunch in the house which was home of the main character featured in the “Lover” by the French Indochinese period novelist.

Continue to Chau Doc, a border destination, and a sleepy riverside city locales by a branch of the Mekong River.

Travel to Chau Giang to visit Islam mosque of Cham minority. Cham used to live in coastal region of central Vietnam from the 2nd century and practiced Hindu then became Muslim from Middle Ages as a result of contact with sea merchants from Arab. Take the opportunity to see the Cham working with weaving looms for silk. On the returning boat trip, stop to visit a Khmer temple and floating houses that sit above catfish farms.

Take the evening time for leisure. Overnight in Chau Doc.

Day 3: Chau Doc – Can Tho (B, L)

Visit Chau Doc’s colorful market by the Hau river before the 3-hour car journey to Can Tho, the fifth largest city in Vietnam and the hub of the Delta.

In the afternoon, discover Can Tho by bicycle. The biking roads are flat and amazingly scenic with farms, paddy rice field, cottage industries, hidden temples, during cycling meet and chat with lots of friendly locals.

Return to hotel for free time at leisure.

Overnight in Can Tho.

Day 4: Can Tho – Ho Chi Minh City (B, L)

Rise up early and take a 45 minute boat trip to Cai Rang floating market. This is a whole sale market for fruit and vegetables. The selling items are hanged on an upright pole as adverting pole. Enjoy the vibrant market with people hawking mango, pineapple, water melon from one to other boat… you even find here floating pho vendors and coffee parlors float on the water!

After visiting the market, transfer back to Ho Chi Minh City.
