Day 1: Arrive Luang Prabang

Welcome to spiritual heart of Laos!

On arrival at Luang Prabang airport, be met by your guide then transfer to the hotel. Choose to relax in the hotel or enjoy some independent exploration of Luang Prabang.

Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Optional tour: Baci ceremony

At 5.30 PM, depart from the hotel and transfer to attend in the traditional Baci ceremony of Laos. As the purpose of the sacred Baci is to recall the lost spirits or the spirits escaped from the body, a Baci ceremony is often held during the important events such as weddings, births.

Attending a Baci is a special opportunity for visitors to observe Laos’ unique culture. At the end of the ceremony, be tied with a red thread around your wrist and receive a happiness blessing from a Buddhist monk.

Day 2: Luang Prabang – Pak Ou cave (B, L)

After a good night and tasty breakfast, transfer to visit the city’s most famous Wat Xieng Thong then continue to the boat jetty in Mekong.

After two hour cruising upstream the mighty Mekong River, reach the destination and disembark the boat to climb up to reach Pak Ou Caves where thousands of gold gilded statues of Buddha in all sizes from centimeter high to human size statues are jam packed all around.

After the caves, on the way back Luang Prabang and if time permits, stop at a local village of Ban Xang Hay for a visit, locals here are still distilling rice wine using natural yeast and traditional techniques.

For the afternoon, start Luang Prabang city tour at the Royal Palace, now serves as the National Museum then walk to the nearby Wat Mai, the temple decorated with golden bas-relief. At the Traditional Arts & Ethnology Centre, learn about the diversity of Laos’ ethnic minorities for their culture and way of life. (Note: closed on Monday).

Overnight in hotel in Luang Prabang.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITY: Garavek Folklore Theater

In a small theater converted from colonial house. Enjoy a special performance presented by local actors who will narrate the mystical legends of Laos via folktales. The stories in the show are explained in English and are accompanied by Lao traditional music.

Day 3: Luang Prabang – Almsgiving – Kuang Si waterfall (B, L)

Take an early morning to observe the yellow robe monks walking bare feet along the street collecting alms offered by residents of Luang Prabang. Observing this sacred ceremony is one of the highlights that shed a light on the spiritualism life of people in Laos. After that, get back to the hotel for a tasty breakfast.

Enjoy breakfast and transfer to Wat Visoun, considered as the most sacred temple of Luang Prabang. Walk to continue the tour with Wat Aham and Wat That.

Leave Luang Prabang for the peaceful countryside. Reach Kuang Si Waterfalls to soak in the green natural forest and emerald the water. In the hot days, the naturally created pools will be ideal places for a dip.

Note: when bathing please be respectful and avoid showing much your skin.

On the way out, after the waterfall, take options of visiting the Bear Sanctuary where some of the Asiatic Black Bears are rescued and looked after. If you are keen on seeing butterflies, there is an option to visit the Butterfly Park where hundreds of Laos’s butterflies are seen! Both places are located by the entrance gate to the Kuang Si Waterfall (Note: closed on Tuesday).

Return in time back to Luang Prabang to conquer the Mt. Phousi. After 320 steps, be rewarded with a spectacular panoramic view of the city in sunset.

Day 4: Luang Prabang – Departure (B)

Enjoy breakfast and take the last hours at leisure or head to the market for a quick look until being picked up for the transfer to the airport for the onward flight.
